The HP LaserJet III printer driver and all its variations are part of the
Win2K OS. You'll find them on the list after you get past the numbered HP
LaserJets (i.e., HP LaserJet 8100 Series PS).
There are also some Star printer drivers including Rainbow models, but I
didn't see the 1140 listed. Try using some of Win2K's included Star Rainbow
drivers to see which one gives you the best results. Vendors tend to not
make radical changes to their printer languages and you can sometimes get by
with using a "cousin" driver. I believe the Star printer is a POS printer -
a lot of those will also take an Epson print driver if you need more options
to experiment with.
Generally speaking, if the manufacturer doesn't supply a driver on their web
site for a particular OS, there will be a suitable driver for that printer
included with the OS. Still, it doesn't hurt to double-check the
manufacturer's site.
