driver clean

Whats the best way of completely ridding my system of drivers etc from my
current Nvidea card, prior to installation of new Ati card?

Is simply un-installing on its own enough?
Or is there remnants left over such as registry keys etc that need to be
deleted/cleaned?

When I changed my GeForce 3 to a Radeon 9700Pro
used the official 'Add and Remove' programs function, then
did a filesearch with nv*.* and erased those files. Finally I
did a search through the registry for anything relating to
Nvidia and erased the keys. The system's been rock solid
ever since.

Thanks for that.
Downloaded a 'driver cleaner' prog that seeks out and cleans up any files
and reg keys, dont think its working proper though. It also cleaned my
driver.cab file

I'll try what you suggested tho

hi biz,

first uninstall from the uninstall menu
open the registry, make a backup pointing on my computer(export)
search in the HKEY-maps with search "Nvidea"
study the founded object, delete the thread
search further with the F3-key until the end of the registry, close
delete all related directories and subdirectories related to "Nvidea" *in
the trashcan*
do not change anything more !!
install your new source / drivers or whatever adn reboot

*trashcan and reg-backup makes it possible to restore the settings*
use at your own risk

I believe there's a Detonator Destroyer app available that cleans NVidia
files, Mart. Unlike ATi's cat-uninstaller, I don't think it's provided by
the manufacturer, but may be found in NVidia support groups and forums.

Don't assume that all registry cleaners are OK. I've always had excellent
results from jv16 Power Tools, which includes RegCleaner (_not_ to be
confused with M$' RegClean). Unfortunately, jv16 has now gone commercial,
although you can dl a trial. The last freeware version that still works was
v 1.2.

Driver Cleaner is also recommended by many posters here, although I've
never tried it myself.

IIRC Detonator Destroyer doesn't work with XP, and I prefer
to do a file & registry search myself rather than let an application
do it - at least then you know you've gotten everything out without
leaving bits and bobs of registry entries & files everywhere.

Searching for and removing all files beginning with 'nv...' is all very
well, unless you've got an nvidia based motherboard !
So lets be careful out there.

LOL, I learned that lesson, leave the nforce stuff alone. I had to reinstall
all my drivers.
