I have a drive that win2k reported some errors on. What can I use to
do a serious check of the drive and determine if is has hard errors or
if it's safe to continue using it ?

Drive is a 20gb Western Digital.

Thanks,

The hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic and the Everest SMART report.

You need to do more than just check the OKs with the Everest SMART report.

Run the disk tools that come with windows. Then browse to the Western
Digital website and download a free copy of their Data Lifeguard
Diagnostics V 5.04f. It creates a boot disk and then you run the utility.
Finally, a 20GB WD drive isn't worth the time trying to figure out if it's
reliable. Get the data off onto something, buy a new drive, and put the WD
on the shelf.

Thanks,

I use HDTune (free). It found a HDD error that Samsung's diagnostics
missed. I had to run the long scan though as the quick scan missed it too.
I knew there was something wrong with the HDD though and sure enough HDTune
found it. This prog also shows SMART output.
