I have built a server using 16 x 2TB drives, they are in a Raid 5 set up
using a 3Ware card and I am using an 80Gb as the c drive. I am running xp
professional 32 bit. The problem I am having is I have built the raid which
it did fine using a carve size of 1875 but when I then go to disk manager
within windows instead of showing the 14 drives like it should it is only
showing 8 (9 including the c drive). I am struggling to find a reason for
this I am guessing it is a restriction within windows, If this is the case is
there anyway I can increses the amount of drives it will see???
Thanks All

I suspect that your OS is seeing all HDs, but is not displaying them
all to you via Explorer. If that's the case, then download and run
TweakUI. The right version of TweakUI depends on which version of
Windows you have, which you didn't say. On XP, for example, when
you run TweakUI, click on MyComputer/Drives, then click on the box
for each HD letter.

From your note, it sounds as though you have created a single RAID5
RAIDset, with all 16 large HDs in it, in which case I'd expect Windows
to display only 2 HDs: C:, and D: Out of curiosity, how are those
large HDs actually RAIDed?

Thanks Bob,

Yes the are all part of a raid 5. The way we set them is to include all
drives in the raid with a varve to seperated partitions we then convert the
disks with no letter in the disk management. I have just tried to do the same
thing with 750gb drives and a carve size of 1024 wihich is the min you can
have and although there should be 10 drives in the disk manager it only shows
8 again so it looks like a windows restriction. I will try the tweakui that
you mentioned and see if it helps.
Thanks
for your help
Jon
