Drive needs to be reformatted after a Windows Update

I just came home to my computer and found that I can no longer access files
on my second hard drive. When I click on the drive in My Computer, it says
that it is unformatted and asks me if I want to format it now.

I was using my computer last night and had no problems. I didn't install
anything last night or anything else out of the ordinary, I was just
listening to music. The only thing that has changed (to the best of my
knowledge) is that last night Windows Update installed a security patch. The
patch is:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB912919)

I tried uninstalling the patch to see if maybe I could access the drive
again, but when I go to "Uninstall Programs", it won't show me a list of
what's installed, it just says "please wait while the list is being
populated..."

What's going on?? Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Graham

Could be your hard drive "died". It happens. Hardware fails.

My first suggestion..

Power off for an hour.
Power back on.
See if you can access the second drive (assuming it is actually a separate
drive - not just a partition.)

Is it still seen properly in the BIOS?
Have you ran the manufacturer's diagnostics on it?
Have you been making periodic backups of your important (to you) data?
