Drive Letters

I purchased a new hard drive and Windows XP Professional
in an attempt to rescue the contents of a failing hard
drive. Installation of both went surprisingly well. I
then flip flopped the hard drives making the new one the
master and the old one the slave. So far so good, except
I'd like to make two changes.

1. My new hard drive is the D drive and my old one is the
C drive. I'd like to switch this. I've already
managed to rescue my files.

2. I still have a lot of programs installed on the other
HD. Can I transfer them somehow? This would save tons
of set up time.

At some point I want to reformat my old drive and see if
it is salvageable, but I don't want to dump all my old
program files unless I have to.

TIA

Paul,

It is possible, but often not successful, to change the drive letter that XP
is installed. You would have done better to install the new drive as the
primary drive, then install XP to it. It would have gotten C: from the
start. Then attach your old drive as a slave, and salvage the
files/information that you need to.
