Running Windows XP Pro. Had a crash a while ago and had to replace hard
drive and reinstall windows. A 2nd drive was in place as well. New drive ws
set as master and 2nd drive as slave. Installed windows, installed all other
programs, printer, etc. Recently was attempting to add new printer and when
installatiion began, it told me there was no room on Drive C. Looked in My
Computer, and found that my main drive has a designation of Local Drive D. I
am asuming this took place somehow when I installed windows on the new drive.
Is there any way for me to change this designation from D to C without
having to reformat and reinstall everything? Any suggestions would be
appreciated. Thanks

Unfortuntly you performed a pc users 1 time big mistake when you installed
xp.
1st,you cant change the drive letter on C: 2nd,a reinstall of xp is the
only solution
3rd,physically disconnect all add ons (printers, modems, extra hds, etc) when
instal-
ling, reconnect after xp is running...Also,boot to xp cd to reinstall....

Start Menu | Run enter the following command: diskmgmt.msc

You cannot reassign the System or Boot volume drive letters.

You could also purchase a disk cloning program such as Norton Ghost. You
should be able to clone the wrong/old drive to the new/correct drive. You
should then unplug the old drive and see if you can boot from the new drive.
If it works, you can then reattach the old drive and format it.
