Help!!
My "C" drive lost its ability to boot.
Purchased and installed new drive. Installed XP home thereon. Everything
works ok EXCEPT:

The new boot drive became "E"
The second (slave) became "C"
The CD ROM became "D"

Everything works fine. I installed MS Office 2000, did not ask me for drive
letter, installed on "E" (boot drive) and works fine.
Can I reassign letter names?
Did I screw up on the jumper settings on the drive?
Do I care, since everything works ok?

All replies appreciated.

Usually that happens when you install xp with other drives connected to
computer, you must physically disconnect all IDE drives but the one for xp.You
need to reinstall xp to get it to being C: drive (default).

Hi,

Normal. Since there was an existing "C", and the CD/DVD probably was "D",
the new drive got "E". You may be able to reletter "C" or "D" as long as "C"
is not the system drive (the active one which houses the boot files), but
you will not be able to reletter "E" as it is the boot drive (the one that
houses the Windows installation). Frankly, there's nothing wrong with
leaving it as is. To change it would require restarting from scratch.
