Drive Image and new HD question

I just received a new WD Caviar 120 GB hard drive for Christmas. My
plan is to use it to replace my primary drive in my system (non RAID).
My question is - can I use Drive Image to place the image from my old
drive onto the new one, or will I have to totally re-install Windows
and everything else that I have in the image?

Yes, you can use PQDI or Ghost to clone (copy) hard drives. You can even
resize the destination partition to suit your needs, it does not have to be
the same size as the old one nor does it have to use the whole HDD.
 
OK, that is what I will do. I had originally used PowerQuest Drive
Image 2002 to make an image of my old drive with WinXP PRo, SP1,
Office XP Pro and a few other necessary apps. I guess I'll just
install the new drive and format and then use my Drive Image floppies
& CD-R's to start the process and with a little luck I should be able
to save a whole bunch of time.
 
You don't have to partition or format the new drive when restoring an image,
the partition can be created when you do the restore.

You can get a free utility from WD to do that. Most drive makers have some
free software to copy data from one drive to the new one.
