#2 HD (of 4) failed the other day. It was the drive
holding the winnt\ntds folder.
After adding a new drive the server (second dc in ad
domain) boots with the following error: "Security Accounts
Manager failed because of the following error: Directory
Service cannot start. Error Status: 0xc00002e1. Please
click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory
Services Restore Mode, check the event log for more
detailed information."
Referenced kb#258007 and ntsdutil output on server looks
exactly as in the kb. Added administrator and system
permissions to d:\ and d:\winnt\ntds
When I go to the sites and services snapin on the other DC
I can see both servers. When checking 'replication
topology' I get a "check ok" on server #1 but a "there are
no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"
message for #2.
Thought about DCPROMO'ing the machine down and then back
up to DC but of course I can't do that in 'safe mode' and
it doesn't want to start up in any other way.
Anything I can do from here to bring the AD back up to
synch with the other machine? I would HATE to reinstall
the os on the file server. Knowing my clutz factor I will
probably wipe it all out...
