I could use some help with this one. I just had to buy a new CPU with WinXP
on it.
I stored a lot of files on an extra (2nd) hard drive known as drive "D" on
the old computer. The new computer insists that this extra HD is now drive
"G". It seems that my 2 CD writers have been assigned as drive letters "D"
and "E". Any way I can insert my extra HD as drive "D" so that it is seen
before either CD writer.
Thanks for your help.

Use Disk Management to reassign Driver Letters:

To open Disk Management:

Open Computer Management (Local).
In the console tree, click Disk Management.

Notes

- To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Settings, and then
click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then
double-click Computer Management.

I thought I should add... You have this information in more detail here:

Start -> Help and Support

Search for: drive letters

Click on the link to: Assign, change, or remove a drive letter

Follow the directions there.

I forgot to mention that I tried to do this as you suggested and when
you use the pull down menu to select the new drive, drive "D" is not in
the list because it is being used by a CD writer.
Thanks

Yeah - you will have to do some shuffling..
Change you CD Drive Letters to "Z:" and "X:" or something.. Then Move your
Hard Drive to "D" like you want it.. Then change the CD driver letter to
"E" and "F" or whatever..

I always like reassigning my CD-ROM to R:, CD-WR to W:, etc.

Gives me plenty of room.

I guess this "shuffling" just went right over my head and I missed it
when I looked. Anyway, I now have an extra hard drive (D) and my two CD
drives are now "X" and "Y". Many thanks for everyones help!
