If you open PowerPoint 2000 and select new and blank
presentation on any of the slides,I have discovered that
students can not get to the design templates in
PowerPoint. They get the "drive D is not accessable"
error. But if you select Design Template then they can get
to them. How can I fix this. We have a Network with three
Elementary Schools using Windows 2ooo Server on a Server
at each school and student computers using Windows 2000
Pro, with Office 2000 Pro, at each school. Could this be a
group policy or a Registry edit. Thanks for any help with
this matter.

Hi Gene,

MS Office is setup to look for the templates on drive D:,
change it from within MS WORD. Click on Tools, Options,
File Locations. There are two seetings for templates,
User and Workgroup. Change them to what you need.

Here's more info:

OFFICE 2000 TIP
______________________________________________________

The following factors determine on which tab each template
appears in the New dialog box (File menu):

The location of the stored template.
The file location settings that you specify for the user
templates and workgroup templates on the File Locations
tab in the Options dialog box.
To specify template file location settings

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the File
Locations tab.
Specify the settings that you want to set for user and
workgroup templates.
To eliminate confusion about where to store user and
workgroup templates, instruct users to do the following:

Store templates that they share on the network in the
workgroup templates file location specified on the File
Locations tab.
Store other templates (such as custom templates) in the
user templates file location specified on the File
Locations tab. By default, this location is the Templates
folder and its subfolders.
If users save a template in a different location, the
template does not appear on the General tab of the New
dialog box.

Tip: To make it easy for users to locate templates, you
can create custom tabs for templates in the New dialog box
by creating a new subfolder in the Templates folder and
then saving the templates in the subfolder. The name you
give the subfolder appears on the new tab.

Glenna
