Drive C not formatted

I am running XP Media Center and everything appears to be fine with the
following exception:
When I try to access "My Documents" folder I receive a msg that states Drive
C is not formatted, Would you like to format now?
This just happened and for no apparent reason.
Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue without performing a full
recovery?
I tried restoring to several different restore points and it didn't make a
difference.
Very strange as I know this wasn't happening prior to today.
I really don't want to loose everything if I don't have to.

Thank you!

I tried a Google search and nada. Could be malware. Down load free
Superantispyware and Malwarebyes. Run them, maybe they will find
something.

Personally I doubt if it's malware, since I've never heard of malware
acting like that. On the other hand, I don't have a better suggestion
and it doesn't hurt to run the two programs you suggest, the two best
anti-spyware programs.

If someone else agrees, I would also kill system restore as it
my be infected also.

Note the following:

1. An infection in a restore point is completely innocuous *unless*
you restore to that restore point.

2 If you turn off System Restore, you lose *all* restore points, not
just the infected one, and it's possible that you may want or need to
restore to a restore point created before becoming infected.

3. You may even sometimes need to restore to an infected restore
point. Although that's not normally desirable, it can at least give
you the opportunity to remove the infection; without the restore
point, you may have no options at all. As others have said, a leaky
boat is better than no boat at all.

4. Even if some restore points are infected, although he can't delete
the bad restore points and keep the good ones, another choice he has
is not deleting any restore points, but just keeping track of the
day at which he removed the malware, and being sure never to restore
to a date earlier than that. After 90 days at the most (less, if he's
reduced the disk space allocated for restore points) the infected ones
will all have disappeared by themselves.

Now would be a good time to evaluate the state of your backups. If you
don't have current backups, stop, and make them. At worst, attach your
drive to another system and copy the data off.

Thank you, I'll give them a try.
Windows Live 1 Care didn't find anything, but maybe they will.

Thank you to all for your advice.
I'll attempt to follow all of the advice given and see what happens :)
