Drive c corrupt

Not sure if these are 2 different issues or one in the same. I get an error
that says drive c may be corrupt. I've also received an Windows Corrupt File
error:
The file or directory \windows\prefetch\dumprep.exe-1b46f901.ff is corrupt
and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility
Can not run a defrag says run chkdsk, when I attempt to chkdsk error says
cannot open volume for direct access.

run chkdsk /f
then say Yes when it asks if you wan to run it upon reboot

then reboot
