I have Dreamscene installed - a lovely babbling brook :-)
Since my desktop is now ''moving'', do I need a screensaver?

You don't need a screen saver anymore. It was mainly used for older
monitors, but just stuck around. It was meant to prevent burn in.

But, with the newer PC's, you can have the power saving techniques take over
(monitor off after an hour, etc.), or just run LCD's (which don't suffer
from burn in). Burn in can occur on newer CRT's, but it would have to be the
same image on screen for a week (or at least in the same position).

If you have an older monitor that is always on, you would still need a
screensaver. The icons won't change position, leaving an area for burn in.

Modern monitors don't "need" screen savers as they used to. The burn problem
isn't as much an issue. Now screensavers act more like a privacy screen for
while you are away.

Otherwise, the Dreamscene is not a password protected screen saver - it's a
decorative background for the desktop.

That's not true. Sort of. While it's not called "burn in". LCD's suffer
from their own problem call "image persistence". I have a few LCDs that
suffer from it. Mostly from people turning the PC off then leaving the LCD
screen on 24/7. They have the No Source Signal OSD message burned into
them.

I've tried all the fixes and they help but it never seems to go away.

Ultimately, if you have a lot of icons on your monitor then those will be
persistent images, even while using DreamScene, that can cause harm. I
would not leave your LCD on for extended periods of time either without a
screen saver or having windows turn your monitor off.

Add some sound, and we'll be able to watch that instead of the defragger
screen :-)
