Draw rectangle and change fill setting in 97

I took a word 97 test today and there was a question that I just couldn't answer. I thought someone here could help me out.

The question was (if memory serves..)

Draw a rectangle around all of cell B9 then change the fill setting.

How would I do this in 97?

Select a rectangle from the drawing toolbar, right click
it and select format autoshape, select fill colour
(or select it, press Ctrl + 1 and select fill colour)

You could apply a border and a pattern directly to cell B9.

Are you sure they didn't mean to actually "draw a
rectangle around B9"?
Then you would show the "Drawing" Tool Bar,
select "Rectangle", start at the upper left corner of cell
B9, left mouse down to make the retangle cover the cell,
right mouse on the rectangle, format, autoshape and select
the fill color you want. That sounds like a more literal
answer.
