Hello

my Asus K8N shows DRAM Clocking=333MHz although I use two DDR RAM
modules recommended by Asus (Kingston 512MB PC3200 CL3,
KVR400X64C3A/512)

I tryed each combination (DIMM slot 1+2, 1+3) but every time the
system shows DRAM Clocking=333MHz while booting.

I exchanded the DDR modules but the problem still ist there.

Also entering the settings manual in the BIOS does not help.

Using only one module all works fine, DRAM Clocking=400 MHz is shown
while PC is booting.

Any hint, what I can do?

Many thanks!

Regards
Hans

Might check this out...if it applies to you...looks like it might be a bio
problem.

Finally sorted this out. Looks like the 1009 bios isn't able to
run two sticks at 400Mhz. I tried a pair of sticks from a A64
system at work that was running at 400Mhz and still was unable
to get the Asus board to run at 400Mhz. Just as a try, I down
graded the Bios from the latest 1009 to 1006 and the memory
ran at 400 Mhz no matter which set I used.

Thanks for the help

Hi,

This is a functional limitation of the AMD 64 clawhammer cores and
their on die memory controller. Newer cores (9nm) tolarate mixed DDR
densities. The only 'fix' is to buy a new AMD chip with the updated
core.
