Drag And Drop Issue

Hi Guys,

I have a really frustrating one. For some strange reason, on one one of our
director's workstations, he is no longer able to drag and drop anything. At
first it was reported as an issue on the desktop, but I have since noticed
it applies to any folder.

Drag and Drop is most definitely enabled according to the "Enable Dragging
and Dropping" function within the properties of the start bar etc.

Environment. Windows 2003 Active Directory domain with approx 120 XP
Proffessional (SP3) workstations. The issue only occurs on this one PC.

Sympton: Drag a file to the waste paper bin and it doesn't do anything. The
bin icon changes colour to give the impression it's working, but let go and
it stays where it is and there is nothing in there and the file is still
where it was.

Drag a file with the right mouse button producces no prompt to save the
file. If I right click a file and go copy, I can paste it to the same place
and the copy is there.

Try the same from within any folder produces the same results.

I tried logging in as someone else with domain admin rights and the issue
occurs with that user also, so it doesn't appear to be a profile issue.

Thanks.

Simplest likely cause is that one of the OS files has been
corrupted -- checkable via SFC.EXE = System File Checker.
There are other possible causes.

I will check that. I have tried the registry fix and that didn't work
(unless the PC would require a reboot which I haven't done yet).

Because I was trying to save someone sending an unnecessary reply ;-)

OK, just seen a previous post so will try Line 233 on Kelly's site
first....

Why not tell us AFTER you try it?

Anyone else got any ideas about this one? It just won't go away whatever I
throw at it!

Did you ever try:

Start > Run > regsvr32 ole32.dll [ok]
Start > Run > regsvr32 /i shell32.dll [ok]
Restart Windows

Hi Phil,
I assume you fixed this by now - or did you ?
I have the same problem just occurred (I have a post on here about it).
I'm not as savvy as you guys, but I have been trying some of the methods here, to no avail.
all the best
