I'm using Outlook 2002 Sp2. WinXP Home. Everything
works fine except one strange problem.

I "save" an unfinished e-mail as a draft. Draft looks
fine before saving and looks fine in "preview." However,
when I "open" it all apostrophes "'" have been replaced
by what looks like a non-printing character.

Example: No, I didn’t make the picture

I compose in "html." I use the default Arial font.

If I replace the bad characters with the apostrophe and
re-save. The strange character reappears on reopening.
Any idea what is going on?

No response.... but luckily was able to figure it out for myself

Quick work-a-round
Resave the corrupted e-mail and then reopen. Corrupted characters are gone
and e-mail can be sent. (Resaving restores problem but alternate opens are
clean)

Permanent fix....
Problem is rooted in "Auto Format" routines of HTML formatted e-mail.
Start a brand new e-mail. An item under "Tools" in the tool bar called
"AutoCorrect Options" will be available. This problem is corrected by
unchecking Straight Quotes to Smart Quotes under the AutoCorrect as you type
tab. You may, as I did, find other options you wish to change.
