Hi I am new to this forum but am very IT savvy. My problem has started about
a week ago and I have used different antivirus and trogans software to find
out why I am getting these messages. After a while of the computer running
when I click on to start a different program or open fire fox, it canbe any
thing, sometimes I get an error mesage, this one is an example of one of them
..
At the top of the error message is the text wuauclt.exe then under this and
these set of numbers and letters never change the rest of the message is
instructions at"ox7c882f9c referance memory at "ox7c882f9c the memory could
not be written. Then below that it says click to terminate or clic cancel to
debug. Now of coures if I do this it eith closes the program or if I try to
debug it slow the computer. If I click on the X at the right top of the
message it closes it the error message. I have tttried to reinstall windows
back over the top of my version using the second "R" but the stupid errors
are coming back. Has any one come accross this befor? if they have can you
please tell me how to repair what ever the problem is? I would be truly
greatful if I can sort this pest out.

Cheers for now,
Phillip

Svchost/Wuauserv high CPU use (MVP PA Bear)

See http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/mowgreen/index.php?showentry=1071

Workaround: Change the default from Microsoft Update to Windows Update:
Go to Microsoft Update > Click on Change Settings in left pane > Scroll
to bottom of page > To Stop Using Microsoft Update > Disable Microsoft
Update software and let me use Windows Update only (check).

This is MVP Steve Wechsler's (MowGreen) fix from the BleepingComputer link:

With Windows Update as your default, you will need to check in at Office
Update to keep your Office applications fully patched:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/maincatalog.aspx

Temporary steps that will help mitigate this issue :

* 1) First, show hidden files, folders, and system files
* 2) Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
Delete the contents of this folder. Exit Windows Explorer.
Initiate a manual visit to the Windows|Microsoft Update site.
If that did not resolve the issue
* 3) Go to Start > Run > type in net stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore folder
Delete DataStore.edb
NOTE: This will remove the update history that one sees on the
Windows | Microsoft Update sites
* 4) Go to Start > Run > type in net start wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
Initiate a visit to the Windows|Microsoft Update site.
* 5) If the above does not resolve the issue, then stop the
Automatic Updates service from either the Services console or by running
the command previously given.
Then either rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to
SoftwareDistribution.old or delete it's contents, not the folder itself.
Now restart the Automatic Updates service.
The contents of SoftwareDistribution will be recreated the first
time the system accesses the Windows | Microsoft Update sites or when
the Windows Automatic Update Client is spawned.

The Hard Drive can be defragmented using either the native Windows
utility or from a 3rd party tool.
Please consult the Help file from Start > Help and Support
Enter disk defragmentation in the Search field and then click the Green
arrow.

Check the Help file of the installed antivirus software so that it can
be configured to not scan the SoftwareDistribution folder during
regularly scheduled system scans. At this time, there is no malware that
uses that folder as an infecting vector.

Hi, Malke,

I've looked for that group in the past, and even after repeatedly
updating the groups list, I can't seem to find it on the Giganews news
servers (which would seem impossible since they carry everything).

Then Giganews probably doesn't carry it. Use the Microsoft news server
instead for Microsoft groups.
