DPC issues

I've experienced this problem before and if I remember correctly, it had to do with a MS patch problem, but for the life of me can't find the reference and am experiencing it again. My CPU goes up and down about every 4 seconds to 36% and drops back down. I've found that the DPC (Deferred Procedure Call) is the culprit, but can't determine the fix. Any ideas or references would be greatly appreciated.
 
I was able to resolve it by setting the NIC settings to auto. What a time consuming troubleshooting exercise. I've now documented it in case I run into this again in the future...
