I am using a lap top that I have not used in a while and I can download
nothing because the gold activex bar doesn't come up. Can I just download the
service pack 2 to resolve the issue
 
What operating system are YOU using??
this is a newsgroup dedicated for those who use the VISTA OS.

You haven't given us enough information so we can give you focused help.
It would be extremely foolish to try and install Service Pack 2 on a
machine that isn't working correctly. It is crucial that you properly
prepare for Service Pack 2. This includes making sure that the machine
is completely virus/malware-free, all OEM pre-SP2 patches have been
applied (if there are any), and doing the normal system maintenance.

I don't know what "I can download nothing" means. Can't download from
any site or are you talking about Windows Update? Here is a link that

Now that everyone has dealt with what group this is (Pop got it right.)...

My questions are: What browser are you using ? And where does any gold bar
appear ? I have IE; there is no gold bar for it and things download just
fine. If this is another browser like AO-Hell, look for NG for that
particular browser and someone there should know.

It was a cross post I had answered in the Vista Group.........now I see its
gone from the Vista Group and my reply here seems stupid.

I think the browser has to be IE 7. When things like that happen a gold bar
appears at the top of the screen (unless you've turned it off) giving you
the option to accept this time, always or deny. It's new to IE7 AFAIK.
IE6 does not have such a browser. Vista used IE7.
