Hi there!

I have an ADSL connection on 7.7.mbps but recently when downloading software
of websites such as programmes and updates the speed is going as if i was
still on dial-up between 1.0 - 5.0 kbps.

Does anyone know why this is, as far as i know my system is clean of spyware!

help greatly appreciated

thanks

kevin

Hi Kevin,

the first thing that springs to mind is server/contention issues if you are
sure you are spyware/malware free. Does this happen with all downloads or
just certain sites?

Also, have you tried running an ADSL speed test?

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

You will need to have the Java plug in installed in order to run it. Once
you have run the test, it may become a little clearer as to where the problem
is being caused.

Hope that helps..

Nick

hi nick

the down load speeds seem to be on most sites even 'microsoft.com downloads'
and when i view streaming media it buffers real slow and pauses, where it
used to just buffer at the start and lay through.

Not sure what else to do!!!!

It may be an issue with your DSL connection, contact your ISP regarding this.

What have you run that shows your system as clean?

Are you using any sort of dowload acceleration software?

Since your ISP has presumably ruled out a line issue and you have scanned using
numerous Spyware scans - please follow the below instructions;

Download and run HijackThis;
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip)
Read this Tutorial *before* first use;
(http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42)
Once done > run HijackThis > save a scan log and post it to /any/ of the
following (expert) forums for analysis.
