Downloads to go direct to file Downloads, not Desktop

When new programs are downloaded, they are going to desktop - there is a way
to alter that to send the new programs to the file "Downloads" which I
created. I've just forgotten where or how to alter so that they go direct
to the file "Downloads"

Can anyone help please?

The next time you want to download something, navigate to the Downloads
folder and the system will remember that location afterwards. If you
are using a third-party download manager or the one in Firefox, adjust
the settings through the program options.

A minor point, but wrong terminology can confuse people. It's the downloads
*folder* you're talking about. A file is something (such as the program
you're downloading) you put into a folder.

Just change to the Downloads folder. It will use it from then on. It
reemembers and uses the last folder you donwloaded to to.
 
Thanks Malke, I probably didnt explain myself too well - as I omitted to say
I was using Firefox - I remembered right way when you mentioned Firefox, how
to change it. Many thanks

Ken, my apologies, I omitted to mention I was using Firefox and it came back
to me that I had to go into Tools to change the option from Desktop to
Downloads.

OK. I know next to nothing about Firefox, and couldn't help with it.
