Looking for an answer to why my downloads constantly hang
while using IE. Any website that I try to download from
including Microsoft's Updates hangs just about everytime.
An example of my situation: I tried to download updates
from Microsoft. Downloads starts then hangs up. While
keeping the download active I open another window and
start the download process again so I have both trying to
download and it hangs up on the second one. I repeat again
and again till I have about 4-5 windows open trying to
download. As one windows starts to download it downloads
so far then stops. As I open another window and repeat the
download it picks up where the previous download stopped
and then downloads some more then stops. And on and on
till I have completed all the downloads needed. That took
about an hour with a broadband connection. Same thing with
other sites. Now this is what really gets me......I can
download updates from Norton for my Norton software such
as Virus defenitions and such.....I can download mp3 files
using kazaa or morpheus with no problems. I have no
problems downloading my email....but If I use Netscape's
7.0 browser I have the same problems as I do with IE. On
my system I have use a dual boot. One partition is Windows
XP and the Other is Windows ME. I use Patition Magic 7.0.
I have the same problems with both Operating systems with
the downloads. And this problem seems to have started when
I created the two partitions and created the dual boot.
Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem other than
the user? ha ha....I sure would like some help on this
one.....Thanks

Your problem is with kazaa and morpheus, both which are loaded with Spyware.
These two are the Root issue of your problem.

Removal Tool, your choice, novice users, Lavasoft's Ad-aware,
http://www.lavasoft.de/res/aaw6.exe
Lavasoft/Ad-aware home: http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Advanced users, SpyBot Search & Destroy,
http://studserver.uni-dortmund.de/~su1669/spybotsd12.exe
SpyBot home: http://security.kolla.de/
SpyBot How-To: http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

Install either but both are not necessary, reboot, read FAQ and overview, use
online update feature to obtain the latest reference files, scan for Spyware
much like you would with your pre-installed anti-virus scanner.
Rid your machine of unwanted Spyware pests.

Well I think we have more than one instance of this going
on! I posted yesterday about the same thing!. However. I
do have slightly different system and software.

Although I believe that spyware may cause this! I dont
use Kaza or any of the other packages that have spyware!
I do use the lavasoft product (AdAware) and it is always
up to date. As is Window XP pro... So here is what
happens to me! I start a dl from a site (ZDnet) or the
like! I get to the save or run requestor and I click on
save! I get to the start of the dl. The animation never
starts nor do I get the file requestor! That is where it
seems to hang. It will eventually time out and I get the
not responding error message! But unlike you! Windows,
Office and Norton updates all work! Hope we find an
answer to this!

Well I figured out what my problem was with the download
hangs. It was all due to my stupid network card. I Never
came across one that would half work and half not but
that is what is was. I changed it out with a new one and
behold there was the power of flawless downloading once
again. To check my theory I put the aggrivation causing
network card in another machine and it came down with
downloading blues as well. Yanked it out, stomped on it a
coulple of times and threw it in the garbage where it
belonged so it would be fixed! Thanks for the replies and
the input. I am aware of spyware and that is why I
configured my system for a duel boot. I use one partition
for myself and the other one for downloading MP3's and
such and also for the spy's to spy on it all they want
while mine is hidden.
