Downloads from microsoft download site

My automatic downloads work fine as well as downloads from other sites;
however, when I try to manually download from the Microsoft site I cannot
download. I get a message saying I have downloaded (the file is not on my
computer) but I never get the box giving me the choice to save or run the
download. When I try to click the button for waiting 30 seconds if there is
no download, my broadband connection is immediately disconnected and I get
the message "server cannot be found". This just started about two months ago
and I have not added any programs to my computer. I have run every virus and
adware program I have. I also keep these programs running. I have even
turned them all off and tried to download. The microsoft site is the only
site I cannot download from. Has anyone run into this problem. I am running
Windows XP, SP2 with IE7.

I do not have any of the symptoms on this site. However, I have now found
that I am having problems downloading certain files from other sites due to
security concerns from Internet Explorer. I can still download the files
though. The only site I cannot download from is microsoft.com

Sounds to me like some security setting in Internet Explorer. Look at the
Tools menu, Options, Security tab, highlight "Internet" and click the "Custom
Level" button.

If the "Sites" button is enabled, you might have a block on the microsoft
sites. (This is a HOSTS file entry)

The "Sites" buttton is not enabled. I am beginning to think I am going to
have to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows.

I tend to agree. I think you could spend too much time trying to run down
this relatively minor flaw, when your system is in good enough shape to allow
a total save of data.

Things like E-mail, and app settings can be done easily with the Fast Wizard.

Save settings and data with the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST
wizard): Go To: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

Tried my daughter's laptop. She has the exact same problems with the
microsoft.com site. I have a wireless cable modem hooked to my computer.
This is the only connection the two computers have. If this is not a windows
problem then it is a network problem with my cable modem settings although I
have checked all the security settings.
