Downloads Fails to Install

I've just completed a fresh install of Server 2000. I am now in the process of installing (or at least attempting) "Critical Updates and Patches" from the Windows Update Site. However, the downloads fail continually. After waiting forever (I'm retrieving the updates via a modem connection), I get a message informing me that "the downloads failed to install, please try again." I've been through this several times and am rather frustrated. Do any of you have any suggestions or opinions to offer? I was thinking that maybe I have something configured incorrectly -- but that's just a guess.

Are you trying to install SP4? If so, this sounds like the problem I described
under
Win2000 Service pack 4 fails to install

Though that attempt is just for a a standalone WS.

I don't as yet have viable solutions for that.

SP2 on a stand-alone machine.
