Downloading

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? When I click on
a link to download something, anything at all, my
computer automatically downloads it, but then I cannot
find it on my hard drive anywhere. It won't let me choose
the location of the download and I would very much like
to fix this. If anyone could help I would really
appreciate it. Thanks
