Downloading video

The usual way is to download it to your hard drive, do a file conversion to
get into a file type that Movie Maker works well with, and then import it.

Download it from where?

If you are talking about YouTube or similar Flash videos, you need to get a
special FLV downloader or capture tool. If from You Tube, then you can go
to http://www.videodownloadx.com/ to download FLV. Sigh - this used to be
a good site, but is now plagued by popup adverts, but it still does the job
nicely.

Other methods of download might be as simple as right clicking the video
link and saving target as.

Once you have the video on your local machine (where MovieMaker(MM) is installed)
you have to look at the file type. If the file type is either AVI or WMV you can try
to import it directly into MM. I suggest that you do a quick 5 minute edit and try to
create the output media file. If all goes well, your original video format is ok. If you
get some error, most likely you'll need to convert.

If you get an error generating the output video file (for the above quick test) or the file
type is not AVI or WMV then you most definitely will need to convert. Applications
such as Super and Media Encoder 9 are available, but this might vary depending on
the specific format of the input file.

Good luck!

For YouTube videos get Free Download Manager, it will download and convert
to a more suitable format.
