Downloading updates

I have one computer running Windows ME and a 56K modem and no ethernet card.
Another running Windows XP and high speed. My question is this:

Since using windows update on the slow connection will be forever is it
possible to scan for updates for ME, note the file or update number and then
download them with the faster computer? I could then transfer them by CD-RW.
Just the IE SP1 update is 12 meg or 1.5 hours! Update says I have about 30
updates to install.

The Windows UPdate catalog has downloadable patches. HELP & SUPPORT,|KEEP
PC UP-TO-DATE|Windows Catalog. If you do not see that choice, click on
"personalize Windows Update" and enable it.

It is not necessary to install ALL updates. Choose only the critical ones
that apply to your situation. Many are for networks. The I.E. and
WMPlayer cumulative patches and SP-1 are worth considering, and encompass
many earlier individual updates.

Thanks, I will give a try.

OK I've downloaded a bunch, now some questions:

Do they need to be installed in a particular order?
Is there some to be avoided?
