Hello,

A while ago I was able to download .sgf files from any webpage without any
problem. About a year or so I am experiencing a strange problem that seems to
be related to a particular website, and which must be related to a problem on
my PC because others seem not to have te problem.

On my W98SE, .sgf files are marked as "confirm open after download", as a
workaround for this problem.

I have no problem opening .sgf files via hyperlinks from the KGS archive pages
(e.g. a file from
http://kgs.kiseido.com/en_US/gameArchives.jsp?pageNum=1&user=axd); nor from
the GTL (e.g. a file from http://gtl.jeudego.org/reviews/by_strength?pg=23).

When I try this on Dragon (see
http://www.dragongoserver.net/show_games.php?uid=3209 , use guest/guest for
login if necessary) it seems that the sgf file gets erased (!) before it is
made available from the TIF (Temp.Internet Files) to the sgf editor; this
forces me to Download the file first, then use the Open button once the file
is downloaded - in which case the file does open normally from the TIF.

Apparently sgf files *do* get downloaded because if I leave the download/open
dialog untouched after clicking an sgf link (that is: *before* even clicking
on the Download button in the dialog), surprisingly the file is (!) present
in the TIF and can be opened (via Windows Explorer, navigate to the TIF, open
the file). However, if then the "Open" button is clicked instead of
"Download", the (downloaded) file disappears and the sgf editor complains it
cannot find the file (of course).

I post this in rgg as well because I guess I can not be the only one having
this problem, and maybe someone has found a solution for this.

I understand this is not linked to the file type. My hypothesis is as if the
web page or the hyperlink contains some information that modifies IE's way to
handle the sgf file type.

Thanks,

Apparently the problem is linked with PHP when trying to download from links
such as

http://www.dragongoserver.net/sgf.php?gid=68585 -> trouble

If a HTML link to an sgf file is made available through DGS, the file opens
normally. I could not test this other than by creating such a link, so it is
not DGS but rather PHP that is suspect.
