Downloading odd file names

I go to a website periodically to download a file called "orders.csv".
If I download from an XP professional SP2 machine, the "Save As" dialog
shows "orders.csv". However, if I do it from a Windows 2000 SP4
machine, odd file names come up in the "Save As" dialog. Some examples
....

CA1S6XTB..txt
CA5GIPT7

As you can see, sometimes they have a double period with a TXT
extension, sometimes no extension.

Where are these names coming from and is there any way to "fix" the
Windows 2000 SP4 machine (without changing the OS to XP)?

Hi Dana,

The problem lies with the web page and the way they are sending the download
back to your browser. You should enquire with the web site in question.
 
Can you tell me what you mean by "the way they are sending the download
back to your browser" ? Is there code in a web page for this?

My guess is that that that could be the name of the cab file which contains
that .csv file. It would then just be a quirk of the OS that you would be
given the .cab file name instead of the file name as a suggestion for
the Save As... function.

To test this idea I would use FileMon (from SysInternals) filtering on
Temp (e.g. guessing that the file is first being downloaded to the TIF
and then perhaps moved to another folder with Temp in its path.
