Downloading, no Save As

Howdy,

When I try and downlload an MP3 file I don't get a prompt to Save As or Run.
It just starts downloading and eventually a QuickTime window opens with just
a player in the centre of the window. I can then play the track but that's
all. How can I be prompted to save my downloads in a location of my choice
for listening or burning at a later date.

In Windows Explorer go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Locate the entry for MP3 files and click the Advanced button. Check the box Confirm open after download.

Hey Doug,

No go. It doesn't work for me. I re started and it still won't do it. Any
other suggestions.

What Doug has suggested should work. Did you recheck the File Types option
and see if the MP3's Confirm Open after download did somehow got unchecked?

Also, try right clicking on the file and select "Save Target As" as a
workaround.

Some websites use flash for the MP3 files and you cannot do save as.
However, I don't know that this is your problem since it's opening in Quick
Time. What about uninstalling QT? It has a tendency to associate files with
itself without asking. Another alternative is to install WinAmp (NullSoft)
or install/upgrade MediaPlayer so that files will be associated with another
program.

Are you sure they are MP3’s and not streamed audio files?

Hey Jabez Gan,

Yes I went back and "Confirm Open after download" is still checked. It is
being opened by QuickTime, so I changed it to open by Media Player but no
change. I am opting for your "workaround" fix because I can't waste anymore
time.

Thanks heaps for your help.

Hi Kathea Banshou,

I'm a bit reluctant to uninstall QuickTime because I don't know what that
will do with regard to other items in my computer. I've opted for Jabez
Gan's solution (as per my other reply) in this case but thanks for your
suggestions.
