downloading messages from server

When I create a new account in Windows Mail how can I prevent all the
messages to be downloaded from the mail server? I want to receive e-mails
through Windows Mail only beginning from the present moment, but when I
create a new account all the thousands of old messages start downloading.

Mail or News?
 
The only way I know to do this is to access the account through
webmail, then move all the existing messages from the webmail inbox
to a different folder. The POP protocol will only download from the
inbox folder.
