I have an HP IGO2451 notebook pc, and a JVC DVL100E Digital Video Camera. My question is: How do I get the PC's graphics card / Movie Maker software to recognise the camera via S-video cable, and therefore allow me to download the DV footage to edit

Do I need other software or cables? If so what would be the best cabling method to use, IE Firewire (Do I need added peripheral hardware for my notebook). DV to Serial, are the transfer rates slow and does this transfer the sound

MrConfused,

You cannot transfer DV via S-video cable. You need to use IEEE-1384
(firewire) capture to transfer the DV from your camera to your PC. If you
don't have a firewire port on your notebook, you'll need to get one or use a
different PC to do the capturing.

You need to add a firewire card to your notebook if it doesn't have one
already.

You can get PCMCIA firewire cards... or if the notebook is that old, you may
want to considera PCMCIA combo card with firewire and USB2.0 ports.
