downloading and Internet

I'm having a client who is running Windows XP (a new
system of his) that is having problems with downloads. If
you try to download anything, it gets to a certain point
then it does freezes without errors. What can cause this
behavior?

Any number of things. If this is a new system, have you contacted
the manufacturer for support? Are you able to download and install
critical updates from the Windows Update site?
Is this a broadband or dial up connection to the Internet?
Is this system behind a router? Is there a third-party firewall installed?
Is the XP ICF enabled?
Is there a functioning anti virus program and if so can it get updates?
Are there any popup blocker programs installed?
