downloading a .ppt file in Internet Explorer

When I click on a link that downloads a .ppt file in Internet Explorer, it
opens the PowerPoint file in Internet Exployer, instead of PowerPoint.
Whereas I want it to open in Powerpoint. Note that I have associated file
extension .ppt with PowerPoint, so am at a loss as to why it opens in IE.
 
Is it a PowerPoint presentation, or is it by chance a PowerPoint
presentation that has been published as a web page? Have you tried right
clicking on the link and using the save as option? could you provide us with
a link to have a look?
