Hi , I'm looking for a file downloader .. it doesn't have to download
multiple threads at the same time it doesn't have to connect to the net on
its own it doesn't have to shut off the PC after it has finished it doesn't
have to look like the windows explorer shell or do anything fancy or have
ads or spyware ...all I want it to do is to be able to download a file and
to be able to resume if I get disconnected is their such a beast out there ?

The most simple I found:

ftp://ftp.freenet.de./pub/filepilot/windows/internet-tools/octopus.zip

Sorry I can't find the real hompage for this one.
I use it for years now. don't think I'll switch in the near future.

I'm still using DLExpert 0.99. The home site should be available
from http://www.pricelessware.org plus other DLer's recognized by
ACF users.

I use the Windows port of the WGET program from Linux/UNIX
(http://gnuwin32.sf.net) - very good.
It's a console program, no graphical interface.

To start a new download:

Start -> Run -> "c:\program files\gnuwin32\bin\wget.exe URL"

To resume:

Start -> Run -> "c:\program files\gnuwin32\bin\wget.exe -c URL"

That is the one you want. It is a wonderfully compact program that
does its job very well.

It has a couple of drawbacks too - thee is no filtering the items
captured off the clipboard and the there is no log file. But these are
too small to notice when you consider I have downloaded files using
the Octopus during the last three years - never have lost a file even
after several breaks and resumes.

Pity the Author has stopped further development of this program.
