I fired up an older computer of mine (XP Pro SP3) the other day and for
the last week every single file I try to download appears to start
downloading but never actually gets to the destination directory. I can
open a window to view the destination directory and watch the
'whatever.part' file build up. Once the download finishes, the .part
file is renamed to the real name and immediately it disappears.
Completely gone. This is regardless of the extension.
When using Firefox, there is absolutely NO error or warnings given, but,
when I shifted to IE, a popup tells me that "Windows has blocked a
potentially harmful......" yadda yadda. I am NOT running the Windows
firewall - I use Zone Alarm so that can't be the problem (I guess).
With either browser, the action in the destination directory is the
same, a rename and then a deletion.
Where can I go to stop this behavior? My other XP machines don't do
this, so I have to download on one computer and copy it over to my
problem computer.
