I downloaded a file with microsoft 2003, it recreated all of my 2002 version
files and will not allow me to open any of them. There is now a prompt icon
requesting registration, name, and of course, . . . the 25 digit code!

Microsoft would prefer that you use the term "I *installed* a Microsoft
product on my computer," *not* that a Microsoft file has "infected my whole
computer." The 25 digit code is the product key that was given to you when
you purchased the software, so you need to type this product key when
prompted in order to activate the software. Once you activate the software
you'll be able to open the files you wanted to.

If you don't have the product key then uninstalling this new software
probably won't do you any good because you probably overwrote your previous
installation. In that case, find someone who is good with computers and tell
them "please put my computer back the way it was." If you try to go back to
a previous restore point yourself, more unexpected things are going to happen
and you'll get even more frustrated and confused.

Hon, I suggest you sign yourself up for a class on beginning computers so you
can learn how to install software and what to expect when you do. You'll
also learn how to use your computer effectively and keep your computer and
data safe from those annoying *2003 infections* (or any other virus, worm or
malware). <g>

BTW this newsgroup is for questions about Microsoft Access, the database
application that's part of MS Office. You should post your questions for any
other topics in a more appropriate newsgroup.
