downloaded attachment error

How would I be able to open up an attachment from an
email, downloaded, and able to open it with no problems?
What I mean is I got a attachment which is important,
downloaded it, opened it up, and only got a blank page.
How do i view attachments without a blank page showing
up? HELP ME PLEASE!

This is very difficult to answer without knowing what you are using to read
email, and what the attachement type was.
