Download Problem

All the time I've been using various versions of IE, when clicking a
download link, I'd get the Download dialog box and immediately a File dialog
box so I could select where to deposit the download, whiuc would then begin
when I'd selected the folder. This is the normal behavior for right
clicking, I gather, but what I was happy with for left clicking as well.
For some reason, last week, the download started happening immediately - at
least on ZIP files; I haven't tried anything else yet. When the download is
complete, the ZIP file opens for extracting, or whatever. While I guess
this is the normal behavior for a left-clicked download link, Does anyone
know how or what I need to reset to get my abnormal default back to where it
was before?

TIA

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Check the box for "Confirm open after download".

That did it. Didn't have the problem with an MSI file I downloaded this
afternoon, just the ZIP file. Don't know why it switched, but it's fixed
now.

Thanx
