Im connected to a Windows 2000 network, and need to know
how to download from ftp or http servers while using this
network. When attempting to download, i get the following
error message displayed as a webpage...

The requested document, http://www.xxxxxxxx.xxxxx.xxx,
will not be shown.

Reason: Blocked File Extension.

Right clicking on the link and selecting "save target as"
used to get round this...but now it just displays the
file as a HTML document when selecting the download
destination.

If you have any ideas on how to solve this problem it
would be much appreciated.

Cheers in advance

This isn't native to Win2k - are you using a proxy server or firewall that
might be blocking something?

yes, the administrator has disabled the ability to
download, though, i dont know if he has blocked file
extentions to prevent downloading or whatever. I went to
see him about this, he said that it prevents "office
slackers" from downloading music and other misc nonsence.
I explained the nature of the download to him, he agreed,
but he said if i figure out how to get round it, he will
grant me it...ludicrous i know. So any ideas?

I'd talk to the administrator again, and show him what you're trying to do -
if it's a valid business purpose, and he won't do anything about it, talk to
his manager.
