You may be able to jack the camera in and your operating system may
recognize it as being a mass storage device. If so it will be seen as
standard drive under "My Computer". Otherwise they make card readers
which are seen as standard drives under "My Computer". I.e. drive E for
example.

These devices may be an external pigtail connection through the USB
where others you can mount inside your PC. PC mounted card readers
typicaly hook into one of your spair usb headers which you may or may
not have. If you have never taken a screwdriver to your PC go with a
pigtail. Many printers feature card slots but if you consider one
check to see if it'll take your memory.

This method I feel is easier for experenced and novice users alike as
it is no different than putting in a disk. Windows XP offers a popup
"These are pictures" and asks "what would you like to do" which IIRC
alows you to copy to "My Documents" in a single click.

If your camera has USB from the camera to the computer and from what you
have said it seems to have, you need to search the camera software and
install the USB driver, that done you will be able to see your camera as a
disk drive and download direct to your computer without ever installing the
camera programs. I never use the camera manufacturers software as others, as
well as myself perfer third party software. The one I use a lot is Paint
Shop Pro with imagaes downloaded direct to my disk drive. Hope it's of help.

Usually yes. Either connect the camera to the PC with the USB cable and it
should be recognized as a Removable Drive... just assign it a drive letter
if XP hasn't done so already.

Or do the even more convenient method and buy a card reader.

Just as an extra comment, some cameras require you to change the camera
set up mode so it is recognized as a USB drive by the computer, others
have specialized software that is installed on the computer to
immediately recognize the camera when it is connected via the USB cable.
