I do not know how to open a download from the Social
Security [It was a form I needed}. Also don't know how to
open a downloaded report from a broker. Thanks!!

It might help if we knew what kind of file you are down
loading. I think the Social Security Administration uses
the .pdf format. You can get the Adobe Acrobat .pdf reader
at the Adobe website. I am not sure of the exact address.
