download of windows upgrade

Help.....I haw windows 2000 pro server....I was updating one of the patches and then Earthlink booted me. I tried to connect back and the server at micorsoft would not connect. I was in the middle of the install phase of a big patch. Do not know which one exactly...Just installed 2000 on my new computer and was updating it, so it was one of the first ones....
Anyway...now I can not boot up 2000, computer hangs at about half way into start up....Is there a way to remove the last system save files, or something like that, or do I need to start over with 2000 from scratch. Will 2000's repair feature work? I can start in safe mode. I tried to start with the last know good files, it did not work

You could try steps similar to "Method 1" in the RESOLUTION section of the
following article to find out the latest update that was installed (by
folder date) and manually copy the files back into the %windir%\system32
folder:
