Download Messages Without Attachment

Can I create a rule / filter / settings so that I can auto download messages
without the attachments ? At present all the attachments are also getting
downloaded. I am particularly speaking of the attachments which are more than
1 mb size. Sometimes these attachments are not of any value. At end of the
month because of such junk attachments, I land up with huge telephone bill
for the large size of data movement.

Depending on your version of Outlook, which you dont mention, there are
account/mail settings to govern the size of mail downloaded.
Any Rule/Filter works on mail downloaded only.
You can also loggon to your web mail access & delete there

I am using Outlook 2007. I do NOT want to cut off the complete message with
more than 1 mb attachment. I certainly want to see the message - but without
its attachment getting downloaded on my computer. This rule will apply only
to messages with more than 1 mb of attachments.

AFAIK you can't - for the simple reason that the attachment is not separate
from the message - it's an integral part OF the message. You either download
all the message, including the attachment, or just the header.

Thanks Gordon.
How do I communicate my suggestion to Microsoft ? Are they reading these
posts and taking notes ? Is there any forum / e mail address to write to
Microsoft SPECIFICALLY for suggestions on Product Improvements ?

I don't think that you'll ever get this, for the very reason I wrote - the
attachment is NOT a separate entity - it's part of the email. If you could
look at the packets that are sent you would not be able to tell whether the
email is a very large text-only message or a small amount of text with an
attachment - the packets would look exactly the same. The only thing you can
do is to tell your email client (and this goes for all email clients, not
just Outlook) to only download headers for messages over a certain size...

I got it.
Thanks.

Attachments are PART OF the message, not separate objects. Outlook cannot
download a partial message. It can download either the headers only or the
entire message. That's no different than any other mail client.

It would be physically impossible to fulfill that request.

I am using Outlook 2007 and would like to download just the message header on
messages with attachments; was able to set a 1 MB limit in 2003 Outlook...

You can do the same in 2007. I think it's in the Account settings. (Not
on Windows at the moment...)
