fred rosenberg

hi,

i am setting up a 'download software' page, a pretty basic thing these days.
i would like to have a folder in my web called downloads, that stores the
installer executable. according to the documentation, and some newsgroup
postings i've seen, i should be able to drag the executable into the web, or
do an import. but i get an error message either way

an error occurred accessing your front page web files. authors -
.... webmasters - please see the server's system log for more details.

any clues what this is? i've tried different things, including searching
the knowledge base.

thanks!

fred

Your host may not allow the uploading of executable files.

thanks for your reply.

what do you mean by host? i'm working conpletely within FP 2000, and this
situation is all on my laptop. prior to uploading is what i mean.

more ideas?

Ok, but you still need to check with your host to see if you are allowed to
upload .exe files for downloading from your web site.

On your laptop, how are you opening your webs, via c:\ or http://localhost ,
etc.?
How large is the file, as some users have reported under Windows 2000, with
SP4 that they can't import files over 1MB into their FP webs.

well, that was it--thank you! files was 1.5 MB. so, how do i do it under my
win2000 prof OS, or with FP it's just not possible? what a strange
limitation!

Fred:

I have seen many people over the past few months complaining about a variety
of problems and issues with SP4 on Win2K. Many have rolled back to SP3 and
updated the patches.
