download freezes.

Whenever i download a large file from any website on the
internet, the "download progess" window appears like
normal and the download starts like normal, but usually
between about 50-80% of the download, the download stops
and the download progress window shows no progress. Even
after hours of waiting, the download does not resume. It
is not a particular website because it has happened on
many unrelated websites, and it is not my isp because my
roommate is on the same connection and this does not
happen to him. I need help. Thanks.

Daniel,

It can be your download manager application. To isolate the problem, disable
the third-party download managers and use Internet Explore default download
interface (for troubleshooting purpose)

Click Start | Run | Regedit
Goto this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Choose file > Export and save it as a .REG file (as a backup)
In the right-pane, change the data for "DownloadUI" to blank.
Logoff and re-login
Download a software.

If IE downloads it correctly (and if the third-party download manager does
not download), its the problem with that particular software. I use Download
accelerator and face no problems till now.

Sometimes this happens when your TIF is full. In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...General tab, click Delete files, check the box for offine content, click Okay. This may take awhile. Or, you can totally clear your TIF completely, and get it's index.dat data indexing file that may be corrupted/damaged:
