Download folder in Vista HP 64 ?

Hi, FD.

When the download is about to start, do not simply accept the default
location. BROWSE to location where you want the file to go. For most
download tools, this new location will "stick" and become the new default
for every download - until you browse or otherwise choose a new location for
some future file.

This is a "generic" answer, since you did not give any details as to which
program you are using to download, or which file you are downloading. If
this generic answer doesn't work for you, please be more specific with your
question.

On this new HP I have I do not get the chance to Run or Save or choose
location.
A small messages shows on the bottom left corner of the toolbar saying.
"Do you really want to download this file ............ Yes or No. ......"
(Paraphrased).
I am not on that computer now. I will get on it later today and double check
what is happening.

Is Windows asking you this or your AV?

If that's the case, you are running some special software that it
inserting itself into what should be the normal Windows IE
functionality. The first thing you need to do is identify what that
is. What browser do you use? What else do you have running in the
background?

I think HP's come with some kind of download monitor.

I think so too.
I am going to check the Startup programs and then do a search on the HP
website.
It is not my computer and it seems to me HP put a lot of confusing bells and
whistles on it.

Maybe so. I don't know. But if that's correct, and it were my machine,
the first thing I would do would be to get rid of that (and anything
else that HP puts on).

It happens in both my browsers (IE, Mozilla). Background stuff appears normal.
I want to get rid of the crap but have not yet figured out how.
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Concurred. I have 3 Dells and my daughter has an HP. First thing I did
with all of them was to burn their version of a restore disk, then installed
clean versions of Vista/7. All f them take no time to boot up and run
smooth.

Could you enumerate the steps you took.

Disks that came with the computers. In the case of the HP, I had to pay
extra for them. With my Dell's, they were included.

The download folder location for IE is stored in the Registry in the
Value

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download Directory
